Friday Foursight from The Daily Dap (Leverage, Adversity, Knowledge)

No. 1 — 11/17/23

This is my first-ever newsletter.

This is also my first-ever edition of my first-ever newsletter.

I look forward to delivering you value on a weekly basis via Friday Foursight. Direct to your inbox - and then to your brain.

Let’s dive in.

Growth Notes

(I) Doing hard things will make you stronger, thus able to handle more hard things.

(II) Those who are the most influential, have the greatest systems and the most leverage. It doesn’t always mean they have the largest company or team either.

Look at Mr. Beast. Despite his smaller team, the audience that he has built gives him leverage, thus influence.

Influence > size.

Most companies fall into the trap of the typical business life-cycle. A.k.a they lose their jazz and creativity as they grow.

Why do you think Apple continues to dominate? They execute like a startup even though they are a $3 trillion market cap, public company.

They are more creative and innovative, while having global scale. With this combo, they continue to provide more value to customers at a lower price.

“Brevity is the soul of the wit.” — Shakespeare, Hamlet

“If you can’t communicate, it’s like winking at a girl in the dark—nothing happens. You can have all the brainpower in the world, but you have to be able to transmit it.” — Buffett on the importance of EQ

“And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” — Job 1:21

I’ll conclude with a great passage from The 50th Law by Robert Greene, as it defines the imperative for all creators perfectly:

Your goal must be to break down the distance between you and your audience, the base of your support in life. Some of this distance is mental—it comes from your ego and the need to feel superior. Some of it is physical—the nature of your business tends to shut you off from the public with lawyers of bureaucracy. In any event, what you are seeking is maximum interaction, allowing you to get a feel for people on this inside. You come to thrive off their feedback and criticism. Operating this way, what you will produce will not fail to resonate because it will come from the inside. This deep level of interaction is the source of the most powerful and popular works in culture and business, and a political style that truly connects.

Sam Altman says, “No one is as honest about how bad the early days are as they should be because it’s so embarrassing in retrospect.”
