Growth Notes

Imperturbable.

The meaning of this word is: “unable to be upset or excited; calm.”

Think about a boardwalk pillar on the forefront of a beach.

The pillar plays several vital roles: holding up the boardwalk, a tying point for a boats rope, a landing pad for a seagull, and a home to all different types of algae.

Yet, the boardwalk pillar gets absolutely beat down over the years - weather, it rots as the years go by, and waves crash into it with a non-stop cadence.

The pillar seeks no recognition (yes, of course, because it’s a piece of wood).

It just does its job extremely well.

No matter the storm, the boardwalk pillar is imperturbable.

Being imperturbable makes me think of Jesus Christ. In His earthly ministry, he was the most immovable, calm, obedient character of all.

No strife, no leprosy, no heresy, could phase Him. Truth was His motive. Love outpoured from His pores. The Father’s Will was the only will he abided by. Nothing more. Nothing less.

As Proverbs 16:32 says, “Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.”

What does imperturbability look like in your life?

As Rudyard Kipling puts it in his poem “If”...

Can you keep your head when all among you are losing theirs?

Can you trust God when all men doubt you?

Can you wait and not be tired by waiting?

Can you love and not be tired of loving?

Imperturbable. Unshakeable. Immovable.

Anthony

“Practical dreamers do not quit.” — Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich

“I bargained with Life for a penny, and Life would pay no more, However I begged at evening When I counted my scanty store;

Life is a just employer. He gives you what you ask, But once you have set the wages, Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial's hire, Only to learn, dismayed, That any wage I had asked of Life, Life would have willingly paid” ― Jessie B. Rittenhouse

As the article starts off in saying, “Sometimes God puts us through the experience and discipline of darkness to teach us to hear and obey Him".”

It’s not just a motivational statement when some say, “you can have whatever you dream of in this life.”

Of course, we must pay the price for each dream/goal we strive for.

But the point is this: our mind is like a field that produces forth the seeds of thought we plant in it.

Just as there are undeniable laws of physics that govern our universe (which God created) — the same is true with results that spring forth from the law of mindset/thinking (which God created).

We get what we want out of life in equal proportion to the consistent effort we put forth.

In 2019, I reflected on complacency and its role in the life of humans.
